Ashford, the American R&B duo of Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson, registered four UK chart entries between 1978 and 1986. Their sole top 10 hit was 'Solid', which peaked at number 3 in 1985, while other singles such as 'It Seems to Hang On' and 'Babies' failed to chart. They are best remembered as prolific Motown songwriters and producers, but their own recording career yielded a modest but notable UK presence.
