RAYE breaks records, Fred again.. redefines live, and drum and bass returns.

The Story of 2023

British pop was dominated by the women. Raye released 'My 21st Century Blues', her debut album after a long battle with her label, 'Escapism' and 'Prada' making her the year's breakthrough star. She broke the record for most Brit Award nominations in a single year and won six. PinkPantheress was the sound of internet-native British pop, her short, sample-heavy songs defining Gen Z's listening habits. Central Cee and Dave collaborated on 'Sprinter', which became the biggest UK rap song of the year. Dave released 'Split Decision' with Central Cee. Stormzy released 'This Is What I Mean', a more personal, gospel-influenced album. The 1975 had a controversial year but still sold arenas. The Arctic Monkeys toured 'The Car'. Blur reunited for two massive Wembley shows, their first in years, proving Britpop's legacy was still potent. Taylor Swift's Eras Tour dominated the news whenever it visited the UK. The live industry was booming again, but the cost of living crisis was affecting smaller shows.
