It’s a testament to the cultural mixing and matching the young artist (who was born in New York in 1964) encountered while raised in a Jewish and African American family steeped in the entertainment industry.
While his mother, actress Roxie Roker, found fame on the television show The Jeffersons, his father’s friendships with numerous jazz legends (as well as Lenny’s own youthful obsessions with The Beatles and Prince) helped foster the creative verve that shines on his 1989 debut, Let Love Rule.
